Schedule:

10:45 am- meet at the Sea Aggie Center on Texas A&M Galveston Campus 

11:00 am- safety briefing and overview of salt marshes then head to the marshes (East End Lagoon). The marshes are about 20 minutes away from the campus and we will be following the guides there. We are encouraged to carpool for this part of the trip.  

2:00 pm- head back to Texas A&M campus to clean up and change

Field trip description:

Wade waist-deep into our local salt marsh getting wet and a little muddy. Seine for inch-long red drum, southern flounder, spotted seatrout and other finfish species too numerous to name. Capture brown shrimp, blue crabs, and sea snot! Learn of the Galveston estuary, its ecology and the critical functions of the Spartina salt marsh.

PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, PRE-PAY FOR PARKING, AND FILL OUT WAIVER 

1) All students and chaperones must be wearing closed toe shoes. The students will be going into the salt water marshes. They will get dirty. They can use use old lace up shoes, aqua socks, scuba booties. Students are NOT allowed to wear crocks, slip on water shoes, chaco’s, or sandals of any kind. Students or chaperones without proper shoes will not be allowed to participate in the activity.  

2) We suggest students wear a swimsuit under quick dry clothes, and a second pair of shoes (can be flip flops or any desired footwear) for the ride home.  

3) Students will be divided into groups of 12-15. We need at least one chaperone per group of kids. So please indicate if you are willing to go into the salt water marshes with the kids.   

4) We have to get a parking pass ($5). Please pre purchase the parking pass or get to the site 15 minutes early to purchase the pass there. Here is the link for ordering the parking pass-   https://transport2.tamu.edu/account/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2faccount 

5) Each student and chaperone will need a waiver which will be handed in on the day of the fieldtrip. Here is a link to the waiver-  https://www.tamug.edu/seacamp/images/FTwaiver.pdf

6) When registering, please enter the full name and age of each child attending (the venue has to include that on their insurance forms).

7) We need the names of the parents who are willing to go into the water marshes. We will need one adult per 12-15 kids to be able to participate. The limit is 50 kids. There is no limit for the number of chaperones. There are free tickets for chaperones for this event.
