Intermediate Crochet: How to crochet a hat! (6 of 6)

This class requires that students sign up for all six classes:

April 4, 11, 18, 25

May 2, 9.

Skills required to take this class: slip knot, chaining, and single crocheting correctly without assistance. 

This is an “intermediate” class, meaning it is NOT “learning to crochet.” However it is still beginner friendly. Please don’t sign up your child if they aren’t already able to single crochet without assistance and with successful results. Please message Christy if you have any questions! 

New skills that will be covered: reading a written crochet pattern, gauge, half-double crochet, crocheting in the back loop only (to make ribbing), and how to make a pom pom. 

Supplies needed: 

1. One skein (ball) of worsted weight yarn (size 4) or bulky yarn (size 5) in at least one color, or more if you want a pom pom that’s a different color. You may also need more than one ball if it’s a small ball of yarn or the yarn is very bulky. Try not to choose too fluffy or hairy of a yarn since this will make it much harder to crochet. 

2. A crochet hook in the size recommended for your yarn (message me if you have a question about that).

Description of the class:

We will be working through a written hat pattern together as a class, step by step. We will start with how to read a written pattern, and how to find the gauge for a pattern. We will also learn how to customize this pattern for your yarn and so that it will fit your own head the way you want it to. 

If we have time left over we may move on to another hat pattern with different techniques.
