Ages: All Ages Welcome, but recommended for Grades K-6th; Younger and/or Non-reading children will likely have non-speaking roles as 'extras' such as animals. fair-goers, etc.

Cost- Free, but you must create/purchase your own simple costumes and print your own script.

Cap- This event could be capped due to number of speaking roles and parts.

Event Description:

Beat the heat this summer and join us for Reader's Theatre practice each Monday at Juergen's from 1-2 pm. We will be performing the classic novel, Charlotte's Web, by E.B. White. Children will be selected for roles based on their auditions, interests, and available roles. We will ask which roles children want to audition for, but roles are not guaranteed. There are 20 speaking/reading roles only. There will be additional non-reading/non-speaking roles. Please only register if you are available for ALL 6 of the practices and the final performance. Only 1 absence will be allowed and it can not be the 1st practice (auditions), dress rehearsal (Practice 6), or the final performance. Students and families will be responsible for creating or obtaining a simple costume once roles have been assigned. These do not need to be elaborate as the spotlight of a reader's theatre is the expressive reading, not props and costumes. Students/parents are responsible for printing and bringing their own script with them each week. We will practice the reader's theatre each week by scenes. When your child's scene is not being practiced, they can either sit quietly and watch the other readers practicing their scene or they may play outside until the scene is called. It is recommended that your child and/or family read the Charlotte's Web novel and/or watch the movie to get an idea of characters your child might like to read and to gain an understanding of the plot of the book. The book features a carnival/county fair so after the final performance, we will host a fun-filled CHC fair & carnival in the outdoor area of Juergen's immediately following the performance with food and games. More info about the carnival will be posted on the July 30th performance and carnival event. Auditions will consist of your child reading a few of the parts they are interested in being cast for. 

Practice Schedule:

1. Audition Day! June 14th from 1-2pm at Juergen's

2. June 21st from 1-2 pm at Juergen's

3. June 28th from 1-2 pm at Juergen's

4. July 12th from 1-2 pm at Juergen's

5. July 19th from 1-2 pm at Juergen's

6. Dress Rehearsal! July 26th from 1-2 pm at Juergen's

7. Performance Day! July 30th from 4pm-5:30pm at Juergen's

If you can attend all of these dates and think your child would enjoy participating in the readers' theatre, please RSVP for this event and all 6 practices and the final performance. Please print and staple one script for each of your participating children and bring to all practices. Print this: Play Script.

Readers Theater is an integrated approach for involving students in reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities. Readers Theater is readers reading a script adapted from literature, and the audience picturing the action from hearing the script being read aloud. It involves children in….
