Prereaders: designed for roughly 3-5 year olds, this group mostly resembles a story time. The kids will listen to 2-3 short books on a particular topic and do a simple craft. It is 100% parent-led.
Reading with help: designed roughly for kinder-1st grade students. These kiddos have a longer attention span and increased fine motor skills. In this group, a parent reads a (often longer) picture book and leads a discussion. Each kid also brings a book around the topic for the month and has the opportunity to share what their book is about and why they picked that group. Then there is a parent-led craft.
Independent readers: for those reading around a second-early third grade level. Each month, a short chapter book is selected by a parent/child combo to be read prior to book club. The parent/child combo will lead a discuss of the books as well as a craft. Ideally, this is 50% parent-led and 50% (or more) child-led.
April Book: The book for April is “Flat Stanley: His Original Adventure” by Jeff Brown.

Chapter book readers: for those reading around a 3rd-5th grade level. Each month, a chapter books is selected by a child (with the help of the parent) to be read prior to book club. The child (with assistance as needed from the parent) leads the discussion of the group as well as the craft. This is designed to be primarily child-led (80% or more) with assistance as needed.
April Book: The book for April is Wishtree by Katherine Applegate.

Novel study: this group is designed for kiddos in 3rd-5th grade who are reading at an advance level for their age/grade. Although it runs similarly to the chapter book group, the books selected often have a middle school reading level. Additionally, the discussion delves deeper into the material and includes topics such as literary devices and choices made by the author. For more information regarding this group, contact Heather Nasr.
The older kids will be reading The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare.
The younger group will be reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.
